Having a strong online presence is more essential than ever, especially for small businesses and nonprofits working to establish their place among and above their competitors.

But just having a website isn’t enough these days. To ensure your organization stands out and reaches your target audience, you need to harness the power of Search Engine Optimization, commonly known as SEO.

Welcome to our next blog series dedicated to SEO and providing actionable insights designed for small businesses and nonprofits.

What is SEO?

SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization and at its core, SEO is about enhancing your online content so that search engines, like Google, can better understand it.

The result of having good SEO? Your online presence (like website, product pages, blogs etc.) ranks higher in search results, leading to increased visibility and more potential customers and supports connecting and engaging with your content and organization.

Why is SEO Important?

Think about the last question you had:

  • Did you ask Siri or Google it?

  • And did the results at the top receive your attention first?

We use search engines all the time and are usually the primary method for finding information online. SEO can help organizations have a chance of being one of those top results and for small businesses and nonprofits, this can translate into more awareness and consideration of you.

SEO Elements

Over the course of this series, we’ll dive deeper into some elements of SEO, breaking it down into bite-size and actionable pieces.

Some of the topics we'll cover include:

1. Meta Data and Alt Text: Discover the importance of the often-overlooked details that help search engines better understand the content of your web pages.

2. Page Paths and Internal Linking: Learn how the structure of your website and the connections between your pages can influence how search engines perceive your site's importance and relevance.

3. Keyword Research: Finding the right words and phrases that your target audience uses can better connect their search for services or causes like yours right to them.

4. Tools to Elevate Your SEO Game: We'll review various tools – both free and paid – that can guide your SEO efforts, making the process more efficient and effective.

SEO might sound technical, but with the right guidance, even those without a tech background (like me!) can understand and implement basic strategies that can make a world of difference.

By the end of this series, my goal is for you to have a clearer understanding of SEO, its value, and how to impact and enhance your digital marketing efforts!
